Beautiful treasures

These are the sample embroideries done by my cousin, who is also from the same town where I live. She is a talented embroiderer and all these samples are testimony to her skills. These works were made almost 30 years ago and are still fresh and contemporary. She is alo my greatesr source of inspiration. The perfection with which she has done is amazing.I received a lot of treasures from her including some books, designs and also threads which are still in good condition. I thought of sharing a few of her works with you all.

The blue work is done in single strand of Anchor cotton thread with stem stitch and filled with seeding stitch.
Regarding the Peacock, the crown is pistil stich, the neck ( blue and green) is long and short stitch ,the back is filled with blanket stich with two shades of yellow. The branch is in satin stitch, the feather part ( blue) is in satin stitch and the green part is long and short stitch.
The photos have not done real justice and it is more beautiful in actuality.

Net Work

I finished one portion of this embroidery today.Thank you Lakshmi for your beautiful video tutorial of the network embroidery which I have used for the flowers.I  am happy at the outcome.I had great difficulty in matching the correct colour of threads to suit that of the material as it a two tone silk.
I would like to try the same kind of embroidery in a solid colour silk sometime later.
For the leaves I tried the long and short blanket stitch and it looked convincing. For the stem part I used two strands of silk thread and didn't like it.So made the stem stitch in single strand which I think looks good.I love stem stitch.

Embroidery

This is an embroidery from the 70's.This was done by my elder sister for my just then born son.
It was done with single strand Anchor thread. She is a lovely embroider and I preserved this piece
to give it to my grandson, who is expected this July.Despite the passage thirty years I still find the finish intact
and the design contemporary. This only proves our point that hand embroidery as an art is 'Timeless' and can be appreciated at any day. This is a driving force for me to keep doing something that we can leave behind which can speak about our love for the art,and it can outlive us.
